YOURSAY | 'Voters may pour fuel on Umno instead to wipe party out in GE16.'
Don’t pour fuel on a raging fire, reads Zahid’s single-line caution
Apanama is back: Deputy Prime Minister and Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has issued a single-line caution not to “menyimbah minyak” (pour fuel on the fire).
Voters, however, may do exactly that to ensure Umno Baru is “burned down” (wiped out) in the 16th general election for its arrogance and its disrespect for the court ruling on former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak’s house arrest bid.
You people can spin this any way you want and act silly to the maximum, along with your supporters, troopers, and trolls, but the facts of the ruling are clear.
Why did the Federal Territories Pardons Board chairperson not strictly and diligently follow Article 42 of the Federal Constitution? The royal addendum was ruled invalid because it was a unilateral decision.
To borrow the words of High Court judge Alice Loke, since it significantly alters the nature of the imprisonment term, why was it not deliberated at a Pardons Board meeting? Why was it done after the meeting, and unilaterally?
As for the addendum, it has clearly shown that the board itself was kept in the dark.
Of course, you people will not bother to ask these questions. You need Najib to be out of prison, even if the Federal Constitution is thrown under the bus.
If not, you resort to racial narratives, blame DAP, spin stories about reduced powers of the royalty, and invent all sorts of nonsense.
Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki criticised a DAP leader’s social media post celebrating the High Court’s decision to dismiss Najib’s bid to serve his sentence under house arrest.
Asyraf described former minister and DAP MP Yeo Bee Yin as “very rude and inhumane”.
“If you are unable to offer any sympathy, do not issue such rude and offensive statements,” he said in a Facebook post, where he also uploaded a screenshot of Yeo’s post. This is how Umno Baru fellows act silly.
Asyraf added that it might be time for Umno to reassess its cooperation with those who did not appreciate the party’s contributions.
“What’s more, mocking a former Umno leader who is still revered by the party that helped form the unity government,” he said.
The party still reveres a convicted felon. A grossly corrupted party.
Cogito Ergo Sum: Zahid, you were the biggest beneficiary of the coalition known as Pakatan Harapan and the unity government. Your 47 counts of criminal breach of trust case were reduced to a discharge not amounting to acquittal (DNAA) - a record even for your party.
And now, like a spoilt child, you throw tantrums because your “Bossku” is in jail for massive theft of public funds?
If he ever comes out, you will be thrown under the bus and probably take his place at Kajang Prison. But unlike Najib, you were never a prime minister.
We all know how Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim was treated, black eye and all. You are just a deputy prime minister, so control your boys and start thinking like a Malaysian.
People are fed up with fuel being poured on silly and inconsequential matters when the real issues - cost of living, jobs, medical care, and housing - are crushing the rakyat.
Asam Pedas: Did the deal Zahid made to support the Madani government include freeing Najib? If Anwar is genuinely disgusted by corruption, Umno should be even more so. But the opposite is true.
1MDB did not happen in a vacuum. There were enablers within Umno and Najib was merely the focal point.
Former PM Muhyiddin Yassin revealed this when he admitted he was never part of Najib’s inner circle of trust. It appears that even a doctor trained in ethics can lack them.
Umno should be kicked into oblivion or dissolved entirely.
GE1G18: It’s okay, Zahid. If the seat is too hot, just pull Umno out of the government. After all, you need to start preparing for GE16. It might even make it easier for Anwar to run the government.
Better still, Umno could finally become a more credible opposition than Perikatan Nasional, especially PAS.
GraySalmon8323: The 1MDB scandal set the country back by decades, not only through financial damage but by leaving Malaysia’s reputation in tatters.
This clamouring for a convict who has expressed no remorse and has returned none of the stolen loot to be pardoned is beyond comprehension.
Umno and PAS might as well table a constitutional amendment granting lifetime immunity to past and future prime ministers.
Pakistan has already trail-blazed this path for corrupt leaders, and Malaysia is clearly not far behind in having no shame.
Picture: In all fairness, did Najib get a fair trial? I believe he did, yes, and thus he should serve out his sentence in jail. Period.
Am I inhumane to say he should stay in jail? No, imagine the billions stolen from the rakyat. How could you blame some people for wanting to celebrate?
Prison term serves as a period of reflection, I only wish Najib would make use of the time to ponder how he messed up his life and emerge as a better man. - Mkini
