More than 15 hours after businessperson Victor Chin’s deadline for a PKR MP to return RM9.5 million allegedly taken to help settle the "corporate mafia" scandal, the investor has yet to reveal the lawmaker’s identity.
This has sparked speculation that the matter may have been resolved, possibly through a full refund to Chin (above).
Multiple attempts to reach the businessperson for comment on whether he would name the MP were unsuccessful.
This included requests sent through his lawyer S Krishna Kumar, who, as of this morning, said he would "check" with Chin.
Last week, Chin accused a PKR MP of taking RM9.5 million from him to help resolve a problem he was facing with the so-called "corporate mafia".
In a 40-page document detailing the chronology of events, he claimed the unnamed lawmaker asked him to arrange RM10 million in cash to resolve the problem by speaking to the group.
"I managed to arrange RM9.5 million initially, but the remaining RM500,000 was never passed to him, as this MP did not resolve the matter. None of the money was ever passed to the corporate mafia gang.
"I am issuing a message to this MP: Please return the RM9.5 million before March 30 or I shall expose your identity," he had said.
According to the businessperson, the funds were transferred to the lawmaker on Oct 18 last year.
Ramanan’s denial
Following Chin's statement, PKR vice-president R Ramanan held a press conference on March 25 to deny that he was the lawmaker Chin was referring to.
The human resources minister insisted he had never met Chin and said that police reports would be lodged against such accusations spread by "irresponsible parties".

"This is a dirty narrative to tarnish (the reputation of) PKR, its MPs, and the government.
"How could I possibly take RM9.5 million from someone whom I don’t even know or have met?” the Sungai Buloh MP said during the Wednesday presser.
On Friday, Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli claimed he had received information that the sum owed to Chin had been settled, and expects the businessperson to keep quiet on the matter.
Malaysiakini could not independently verify Rafizi's claim. - Mkini
