GEORGE TOWN: Police today confirmed that bones found behind a restaurant near the Batu Ferringhi beach were those of a horse, dispelling social media claims that they were human remains.
Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rozak Muhammad said police received information about the discovery at 1.30pm and immediately deployed personnel to the location.
"The bones appeared longer than usual.
"Further examination by forensic medical specialist Dr Chandroth Navin Pankajakshan confirmed they were horse bones and not human bones," he said today.
Earlier, members of the public passing through the beach area were alarmed by the discovery, fearing the bones could be human remains, prompting them to alert police. - NST
