Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said BN's performance in recent state polls is no reason to withdraw support from the federal government.
"BN remains committed and serious about fulfilling its role and responsibilities in the federal government until the end of the term," Khaled said in a statement today.
He said that any decision regarding the 16th General Election will only be made when the time comes.
"Even though BN contested against Pakatan Harapan and PKR in previous series of state elections, BN does not use the outcomes in Sabah, Johor, and Negri Sembilan as an excuse to withdraw from the commitment it has given.
"BN views GE16 as a turning point or a matter to be addressed when the time comes, rather than altering the existing commitment to its cooperation with PH at the federal level," he added.
BN won the recent state polls in Johor and Negri Sembilan.
Khaled added that differences at the state level do not impede solid cooperation at the federal level, noting that this arrangement reflects the reality of the current political landscape.
"This form of cooperation and new political norm should be embraced with maturity and openness," he said.
He reiterated that the unity government was established for the sake of political stability, echoing previous remarks by Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. - NST
