Cars sprayed with red paint near Kajang MRT, police investigating

KAJANG: Several motorists returned to their vehicles near the Kajang MRT station yesterday to find them sprayed with red paint in an apparent act of vandalism.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof said police received a report from a 48-year-old woman at 8.29pm.

He said the private sector employee had parked her Perodua Myvi at the site about 6am before taking the MRT to work.

"When she returned about 6pm, she found red paint sprayed on the right-side window of her vehicle.

"Checks found several other vehicles parked in the same area had also been sprayed with red paint, believed to be the work of irresponsible individuals," he said in a statement today.

The case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief and causing damage.

Those convicted face a jail term of between one and five years, a fine, or both.

Members of the public with information have been urged to come forward to assist investigations.

Meanwhile, a Facebook user claimed more than 10 vehicles parked near the station had been sprayed with red paint.

The user expressed concern over the safety of motorists, particularly women, and urged other affected vehicle owners to lodge police reports.

At the time of writing, only one police report had been lodged. - NST
