The newly appointed Negeri Sembilan state executive council members are determined to fulfil the trust placed on them by focusing on the continuity of existing programmes, strengthening development for the people and ensuring that every manifesto pledge is implemented.
State Rural and Regional Development Committee chairperson Faizal Ramli aims to strengthen the development and welfare of rural communities through closer collaboration with relevant agencies, particularly in villages.
He described the portfolio as a major responsibility as several areas, including Linggi, comprise largely of rural communities that require more effective services and development.
“Insya-Allah, next week I will get the views of the relevant agencies to continue whatever programmes were planned previously and improve them. Most importantly, we want to empower rural communities and enhance their welfare and development,” he told Bernama.
He said the continuous approach and collaboration with relevant agencies are important to ensure that every rural development plan truly benefits the local community.
Tourism, Arts, Culture and Heritage Committee chairperson Razali Abu Samah said he would review the scope of the portfolio, including improving performance targets, to ensure the state’s tourism agenda achieves its stipulated objectives.
He added that the scope and programmes implemented by the previous administration would first be reviewed before any improvements were made to ensure the state’s tourism agenda continued to be strengthened.
Local Government Development, Housing and Non-Islamic Affairs Committee chairperson Siow Kong Choon concurred, and gave his commitment to ensure that the manifesto, which includes all races and segments of society, would be implemented.
He described the appointment as a huge responsibility and is confident that the cooperation of the entire exco lineup under the leadership of Menteri Besar Ismail Lasim would enable the government to fulfil its promises to the people through state policies and programmes.
“The BN manifesto covers all races and segments of society. So, I am confident that, together with the other Exco members, we will strive to fulfil what we have promised,” he said.
Sukma preparations
Youth and Sports Development Committee chairperson Mustapha Nagoor, who has been reappointed to the portfolio, intends to continue with previously drawn-up plans, with an immediate focus on preparing the Negeri Sembilan contingent for the Malaysia Games (Sukma) this month.
He said that being reappointed to the same portfolio would allow him to continue with plans already drawn up, including matters temporarily put on hold.
“I was hoping to be given the same portfolio because we have already drawn up and planned many things… Sukma is just around the corner (from Aug 15-24), so once I enter the office, I will call the state sports council director to get a report and an update on the final preparations,” he said.
Yesterday, all 10 state executive councillors took their oath of office before the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, at Istana Besar Seri Menanti in Kuala Pilah.
The 16th Negeri Sembilan state election results saw BN win 18 seats while Perikatan Nasional secured seven, enabling the two coalitions to form the state government with a two-thirds majority.
