PKR Youth begins gearing up for Melaka election

The youth wing of PKR has begun stepping up preparations for the coming Melaka state election by strengthening its election machinery and coordinating grassroots programmes, PKR Youth chief Kamil Munim said.

“Our priority at the moment is to ensure that the election machinery, programmes and overall preparations are in the best possible condition and fully ready,” he said after a town hall session here, Bernama reported.

He said seat allocations and candidate selection would be discussed further by the party’s top leadership.

The Melaka state assembly’s term expires in December, and elections must be held by mid-February at the latest. In the 2021 Melaka state election, PH won five of the 28 seats while Barisan Nasional secured 21 seats and Perikatan Nasional won two.

Nurul Izzah’s exit ‘not a problem’

Kamil said Nurul Izzah Anwar’s decision to relinquish her position as deputy president would have no bearing on the party’s future.

“I don’t think it is a huge problem,” he said. “The party is carrying on as usual,” he was quoted by Kosmo as saying.

Nurul Izzah last night said she had decided to relinquish her position in order to further her studies. However, she will continue to be a PKR member and confirmed that she would be attending the party’s congress next week.

Earlier yesterday, PKR information chief Fahmi Fadzil said Nurul Izzah would take a temporary leave from her duties after the national congress. He said she had requested to step down from the post but the PKR leadership decided to allow her to take a break instead. - FMT
