Zahid: BN, Umno will not compromise if TH RCI finds wrongdoing

PUTRAJAYA: Barisan Nasional (BN) and Umno will not compromise if the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into Tabung Haji (TH) finds that any individual or group had committed wrongdoing, criminal breach of trust or poor governance, said BN chairman and Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

He said those found responsible must face the consequences.

"I do not think we should compromise if such negative elements are found to have occurred.

"However, if the findings are otherwise, then the RCI report will merely contain recommendations," said Zahid, who is also Rural and Regional Development Minister, after the ministry's monthly assembly here today.

He said the RCI report would be debated in the Dewan Rakyat next week.

"As for what comes next, it will be debated and discussed when the report is tabled in the Dewan Rakyat on Aug 11," he said.

Zahid was responding to a question on former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin, who said on the Keluar Sekejap podcast that Umno must acknowledge its shortcomings in managing TH during the BN administration between 2014 and 2017, as highlighted in the RCI report released last week. - NST
