Melaka dance teacher remanded over sexual assault allegations

A dance teacher in Melaka has been remanded for five days from today over allegations that he sexually assaulted two of his students.

Senior assistant registrar Nurul Asyikin Rosli issued the remand order for the 20-year-old suspect at the Ayer Keroh magistrates’ court to facilitate an investigation under the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 (Act 792), Berita Harian reported.

Melaka police chief Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the teacher was arrested yesterday after a 14-year-old boy lodged a police report.

He said police also received a report from another 15-year-old boy who was learning traditional dance from the suspect.

“In the first case, the victim is believed to have been sexually assaulted several times since Sept 4 at the the suspect’s home in Krubong and at Tasik 1 Krubong.

“In the second case, the victim became acquainted with the suspect through his involvement in a zapin performance for Tourism Day at Encore Theatre in Klebang.

“The victim claimed that the first incident occurred at the end of December last year in a hotel here, while the most recent incident occurred in early June at the suspect’s home in Krubong,” he said. - FMT
