Umno-Pas cooperation drawing envy from political rivals, says Asyraf Wajdi

KUALA LUMPUR: The unity between Umno and Pas is increasingly drawing the envy of their political rivals, with the cooperation coming at a high price.

Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said various forms of intimidation, slander and malicious accusations had been levelled at the party to create fear, humiliate and tarnish the reputation of its leaders, as well as test their resolve.

"What has happened recently reminds us how people intoxicated by temporary power can lose their judgement.

"They abuse the remnants of their positions, mistreating those who once helped elevate them to power.

"But they have miscalculated. They thought that by mistreating and humiliating us, we would become weak," he said in his speech when presenting his report at the 2026 Umno General Assembly at the World Trade Centre here today.

Asyraf said the stronger the pressure exerted on the unity, the more determined Umno would be to fight back.

"They are mistaken. We are Umno fighters, Malay fighters. When challenged, we rise.

"When pressured, we leap higher; when struck, we stand firmer and fight back harder.

"Once the sails have been hoisted, do not fear the waves of the sea. The more we are pressured, the harder we will fight," he said.

He also advised Umno delegates not to become arrogant when the wind was in the party's favour.

"The waves that carry us upwards can also crash us down if we forget our roots.

"Remember, this victory is not a licence for us to puff out our chests, but a responsibility to serve the people with greater excellence, humility and sincerity," he said. - NST
