Unhealthy air quality hits 14 areas nationwide as of 9am, 11 located in Sarawak

 

PETALING JAYA: IPD Serian in Sarawak recorded an unhealthy air quality reading of 197, the highest Air Pollutant Index (API) reading in the country as of 9am Friday (Sept 11), according to the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS).

A total of 14 locations recorded unhealthy air quality levels, with 11 of them in Sarawak, including IPD Serian, Kuching, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Sarikei, Samalaju, Sibu, Mukah, Bintulu, Miri and ILP Miri.

Meanwhile, 49 locations recorded moderate air quality levels, while five recorded good levels.

All five locations with good air quality readings are in the northern states of Peninsular Malaysia – Kulim Hi-Tech, Alor Setar and Langkawi in Kedah, Balik Pulau in Penang and Kangar in Perlis.

None of the monitoring stations recorded hazardous air quality levels.

API readings of between zero and 50 indicate good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, while readings above 300 are categorised as hazardous.

API data is released hourly based on readings from 68 air quality monitoring stations nationwide. - Star
