Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim has decided to cancel the controversial condominium project next to the historic Batu Caves after being briefed by an independent committee reviewing the project.
"After listening to the explanation (of the committee), I have made the decision that Selayang municipal council cancels the development planning approval that has been issued to Dolomite Properties Sdn Bhd to build the 26-storey Dolomite Park Avenue condominium," Khalid (left) announced in a statement today.
He added the decision was made to safeguard the public and protect the environment.
"I hope that this decision will be accepted positively by all quarters because it involves the safety of the public.
"Selangor state government will not compromise with any development project that could jeopardise the safety of the people," he said.

The condominium project in Batu Caves, located near the iconic Hindu temple to Lord Muruga, courted controversy after the MIC-linked temple committee called for the project to be shelved, quoting potential environmental damage and possible disruptions to the place of worship.
The issue prompted a finger-pointing game between BN and Pakatan in November last year, with both sides blaming each other for approving the project in 2007 and 2008 respectively.
In December, Khalid named a five-member committee to study the issue.
The five members are Klang district Orang Besar Abdul Ghani Pateh Akhir, neurosurgeon Dr M Nachiappan, former judicial commissioner Ranita Hussein, building law expert Harbans Singh and geologist Tan Boon Kong.
In the statement issued today, Khalid said the committee had its first meeting on Tuesday.
“During the meeting, the town and rural planning department had presented in detail the construction status of the structures and buildings in Batu Caves and their safety levels.”
He said the decision to scrap the project was made after the meeting.
“Selangor government supports any development project for the well-being of the people but it must be planned carefully according to regulations and does not jeopardise the safety of the people,” he stressed.
