KKB polls: Loke says it doesn’t matter if MCA helps DAP or not

KKB BY-ELECTION | DAP would appreciate it if MCA assists in the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election campaign but it does not matter even if the latter does not, said DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke.

He also said it was because the by-election is not about "persuading political parties" but convincing the voters.

"The most important thing is to persuade the voters, not any political party.

"This election is not about parties. It's about the people. Those who come to help are highly appreciated, and for those who don't, it's okay. There's no problem.

"If they feel they can't help, it's their right," he said.

Loke said there's good cooperation between members of the coalition government, especially with Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi who came to the nomination centre to show his support today.

'Irresponsible to call for boycott'

The transport minister also slammed parties calling the Indian community to boycott the by-election, calling it "irresponsible”.

"Voters who value democracy will not boycott elections. Boycotting will not bring any benefits to voters. This is the right of citizens.

"So, the rights of citizens are very important and highly valued. Many people in other countries don't have the opportunity to vote.

“Therefore, those who call for voters to boycott are people who are not responsible for our country's democratic system,” the DAP leader stated.

Four candidates will contest for the Kuala Kubu Baharu state seat, which was left vacant by the passing of its incumbent Lee Kee Hiong, last month.

They are Pang Sock Tao (Pakatan Harapan) Khairul Azhari Saut (Perikatan Nasional), Hafizah Zainudin (Parti Rakyat Malaysia) and Nyau Ke Xin (independent). - Mkini
