Plenty of old videos around, even of PAS backing DAP, says Zahid

PUTRAJAYA: Barisan Nasional chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has played down an old video of DAP’s Kuala Kubu Baharu candidate Pang Sock Tao criticising the Umno-led coalition.

“If we’re talking about old videos, there are plenty of such videos around. The same goes for other parties. We can even share videos of the Islamic party asking (voters) to support DAP,” said Zahid, referring to PAS.

The Umno president maintained that Malaysia’s political environment has changed, calling for the “opening of a new chapter”.

The video of Pang, who is press secretary to housing and local government minister Nga Kor Ming, was originally posted on TikTok in November 2022. In the video, she said Malaysians had “lost hope” in the country after more than 60 years of BN rule.

The video recently resurfaced and was also shared by MCA Youth chief Ling Tian Soon.

DAP publicity secretary Teo Nie Ching said the video was taken when Pang was campaigning for Pakatan Harapan during the 2022 general election.

Teo said there were many other videos of DAP leaders slamming BN and MCA, as well as vice versa, during the GE15 campaign.

However, she said what was more important was that leaders of both coalitions were mature and put aside their differences to “move forward” following the formation of the unity government.

Pang was nominated as the PH candidate for the May 11 by-election in Kuala Kubu Baharu earlier today. She declined to comment on the video. Zahid was among the top leaders present who accompanied Pang to the nomination centre. - FMT
