SHAH ALAM — In a small protest march after Friday prayers this afternoon, a group of Malay non-governmental organisations (NGOs) declared Umno the only party capable of defending Muslims and their exclusive right to the word “Allah”.
Unlike Umno, said the group calling themselves the “Selangor NGO secretariat”, the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) government in Selangor and its Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim are “politically motivated” in the struggle for Islam.
He was speaking to reporters after submitting a memorandum in support of the Selangor Islamic Religious Department’s (Jais) recent action in seizing copies of Malay and Iban language Bibles containing the word “Allah” from the Bible Society of Malaysia’s (BSM) premises in Petaling Jaya.
Jamal was accompanied by less than 100 people from different NGOs, ranging from Malay rights group Perkasa to MJMM (Pertubuhan Memartabatkan Muhibbah Malaysia), who marched from the Shah Alam mosque to the Jais headquarters here to deliver the support memorandum.
“We also want to criticise the Selangor Mentri Besar for not taking an interest in the welfare of Islam in Selangor, “ Jamal added.
