Nor Saleha Mohd Salleh has criticised the authorities for charging her husband, Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (Isma) president Abdullah Zaik Abdul Rahman, with sedition.
Speaking to reporters outside the Kajang Sessions Court this morning, she described the charge as an insult to the Malays because Abdullah was struggling to uphold the pride of the race.
"This charge is an insult to all Malays. My husband is a symbol of the Malay struggle," said the 48-year-old Kolej Universiti Islam Selangor lecturer.
Meanwhile, an Isma member, who declined to be named, said the movement would gather a bigger crowd when Abdullah's case is mentioned on July 18.
This morning, only 25 members and supporters had gathered outside the court where Abdullah was charged with two counts of sedition with regard to his remark that Chinese Malaysians are "intruders".
"Yes, today, not many of us attended. But God willing on May 18, there will be a big crowd to support the president," he said.
Isma vice-president Abdul Rahman Mat Dali said the movement would leave it to the court to decide on the charges.
However, he described the charges against Abdullah as being "out of context" based on historical facts.
He also stressed that Isma does not threaten the other races from living peacefully in Malaysia but only voices out for the Malays.
"We are not instigating. We speak based on facts. Other races in Malaysia must realise that they are immigrants and intruders. Not a single historian would deny it.
"The Malays have been kind enough to let them live here together with us, why are they upset (when referred to as intruders)?" he added.
