Minister shrugs off PKR's 'UiTM cronyism' claim

Education Minister II Idris Jusoh has sidestepped PKR’s claim that Umno cronies benefitted handsomely from contracts to build Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) campuses.

Although he declined to refute the allegations or reveal any new information, Idris counter-argued that PKR MP for Pandan, Rafizi Ramli, was just shooting blanks.

Rafizi had said that the concessions to build six campuses nationwide were given to companies linked to Umno members at sharply inflated costs.

“All this while, Rafizi is just talking without any proof. He does not do enough research.

“I don’t need to give any specific comment because he is just shooting blanks, acting like a ‘tauke’ (bossy),” Idris was quoted as saying by Sinar Harian.

Over the last two weeks, Rafizi (left) has been giving a series of media expose on the companies chosen to build UiTM campuses. The PKR director of strategy said earlier this week that the government was paying RM8.6 billion in total to all six private concessionaires for a job that could have been done for RM1.8 billion.

Yesterday, he alleged that one of the companies handed a concession for the Seremban campus was partly-owned by a former minister’s brother and has a Umno branch leader as one of its directors.
