JPAM denies it withheld aid from flood victims

Total number of flood victims in the five affected states currently stand at 225,731 people.
JPAMKUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Civil Defence Department (JPAM) denied allegations that it withheld aid from flood victims in Kuala Krai, Kelantan.
Saying false accusations were spread through the social media, recently, JPAM director-general Zaitun Ab Samad explained, “JPAM has never issued any directive to stop food supply or aid from any party.
“In fact we (JPAM) welcome all contributions from the public because in these times where our nation has been struck by such a disaster, people’s safety is our main priority,” she said in a statement here yesterday.
Zaitun explained that besides carrying out search and rescue missions to find drowned or missing victims, JPAM also helped transfer victims to flood relief centres.
She said the department also provided humanitarian services such as emergency, early treatment and other services to ensure that the lives and belongings of the people were protected.
As of yesterday morning, the total number of flood victims in the five affected states stood at 225,731 people.
