A former MIC leader has alleged that the Registrar of Societies (RoS) had “aided and abetted” in the conflict within the Indian party to suit the agenda of party president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam.
In a statement today, former MIC treasurer-general Datuk R. Ramanan said since Dr Subramaniam failed to answer the allegation of illegally obtaining the MIC top post, members were compelled to conclude that he had created rules and laws to suit his agendas for political survival, aided by RoS.
"It is deeply disturbing that he has not seen it fit to reply allegations ranging from irregularities in the letters to the RoS to his masterminding of a smear campaign against legally elected MIC party president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel and members of his family."
He said RoS's non-response on the matter was equally baffling and added that the agency was also to blame for the "needless stand-off in MIC".
Ramanan also said Dr Subramaniam plotted to seize power from the "legally elected president" Palanivel by creating a crisis, misleading the prime minister and manipulating the RoS.
"Immediately after the recent re-election fiasco, when more 1,800 branch chairmen were illegally replaced with Dr Subramaniam's bogus leaders, he called for a‘re-nomination’ to rectify all the wrongdoing of the re-election."
Ramanan claimed the party constitution did not make any such allowances for manoeuvre of such magnitude.
"This 'renomination', in any case, is a pointless exercise. Dr Subramaniam's refusal to exclude the approved list all original branches in 2013 indicates that fraud is in play.
"Enough proof and evidence have been furnished to expose Dr Subramaniam's dubious methods in illegally assuming the MIC presidency," he said.
Ramanan said Dr Subramaniam's continued silence was not acceptable and that MIC members demanded answers and urged him to explain the matter for the good of the party or tender his resignation.
On December 24, Dr Subramaniam announced Ramanan's sacking, whom he said had repeatedly questioned the party’s dispute management.
Ramanan then threatened to sue Dr Subramaniam for sacking him in a way that contravened the MIC constitution.
