A civil servant has purportedly landed in trouble over a Facebook posting on Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor.
The Community Development Department (Kemas) officer was allegedly issued a show-cause letter for stating her New Year wish is for the couple to “sedar diri” (come to their senses).
She had also mocked Deputy International Trade and Industry Minister Ahmad Maslan, saying she hoped the latter would not make “lawak bodoh” (ridiculous jokes).
The alleged show-cause letter dated Jan 4 went viral on social media. It was signed by Kuantan Kemas officer Ahmad Mazuki Salleh.
The letter stated the Facebook post could cause negative perception, and that the irresponsible act could tarnish the reputation of Kemas, the government and civil service.
A check by Malaysiakini found that the Facebook page has since been deactivated.
It is believed that the officer works at a Kemas kindergarten in Kuantan. She has been given seven days to respond or face disciplinary action under the Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) Regulation 1993.
Malaysiakini attempted to contact Ahmad Mazuki, Pahang Kemas head Ahmad Fakhrul Azman Muhammad Radzi and Kemas director-general Hassan Mohd Amin for comment.
Both Ahmad Mazuki and Hassan were not available, while Ahmad Fakhrul is on leave until next Monday.
However, an officer with Pahang Kemas confirmed the matter is under probe, and the authenticity of the letter is being verified.
"We have not made any decision yet; we are investigating if the letter is genuine. We cannot comment (on the letter) now," she said.
"We want to investigate if this is real. We are also worried that the letter was misinterpreted. We need to get feedback first," she added. -Mkini
