Police 'inaction' questioned after MACC's bust on 'enforcers'

An anti-graft bust on enforcement officers for allegedly receiving kickbacks to protect illegal businesses in Selangor raises questions over police inaction, said PAS' Bangi assemblyperson Mohd Shafie Ngah.
The MACC yesterday arrested twelve personnel of various enforcement agencies for allegedly receiving bribes from brothels, which front as massage parlours in Selangor.
"I congratulate SPRM for apprehending the twelve suspects... (but) the big question is why the (bust was conducted by the) MACC and not the police.
"These illegal activities fall in the category of serious crimes, which is under the scope of PDRM," he said in a statement.
He said there have been numerous complaints made to the police over the illegal businesses by assemblypersons and residents but the activities persist.
He also urged the police to haul up the kingpins behind the businesses, including licensed entertainment centres which could also be fronting gambling dens.

In his constituency alone, there are seven hot spots for such activities, he said, including in Sungai Chua and Kajang.
According to inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar, a total 369 suspected sex workers were nabbed in vice raids throughout the country in the past week.
A total 703 people were arrested and 4422 computers had been seized in raids on gambling dens, he said on Twitter.- Mkini
