KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah today visited fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim who was critically injured in a riot at the Sri Maha Mariamman temple in USJ 25, Putra Heights, on Tuesday.
Sultan Nazrin arrived at the National Heart Institute (IJN) at 9am. He was received by Fire and Rescue Department director-general Muhammad Hamdan Wahid.
During his 30-minute visit, Sultan Nazrin was briefed on Adib’s condition by a doctor on duty and also presented his family with some contributions.
According to a statement by IJN yesterday, the 24-year-old fireman has shown signs of waking up and responding to verbal instructions. However, he is being kept sedated to facilitate the recovery of his organs.
In the incident early Tuesday morning, Adib was believed to have been assaulted by a group of rioters while responding to an emergency at the temple.
Adib, who sustained fractured ribs and internal injuries, was initially treated at the Subang Jaya Medical Centre before being transferred to IJN on Tuesday night.
The fracas which took place at 2.30am occurred over the planned relocation of the 100-year-old temple. The riots occurred in the vicinity of the temple and the One City shopping centre. - FMT
