NGO president released on police bail after 4-day remand

SHAH ALAM: Jaringan Melayu Malaysia (JMM) president Azwanddin Hamzah, who was remanded for four days since Thursday over an alleged provocative remark, was released on police bail yesterday.
Selangor Criminal Investigation Department head SAC Fadzil Ahmat said Azwanddin was released at noon yesterday after police completed their investigation into what he had allegedly said at a gathering last Tuesday.
“The investigation paper is completed and we have submitted it to the DDP’s (deputy public prosecutor’s) office for further action,” he said when contacted by Bernama.
The Klang Magistrate’s Court issued a remand order against Azwanddin, who is also the adviser of Gagasan Tiga Malaysia (G3), last Thursday under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
The Tuesday gathering was organised by Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia (Geras) at Dataran Seni, Klang, near here to seek justice for the death of firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim during a temple riot.
It was at the gathering that Azwanddin allegedly threatened to storm the Klang Police Station if those responsible for the firefighter’s death were not arrested.
Adib, 24, of the Subang Jaya Fire & Rescue Station, was severely injured after he was apparently assaulted in the vicinity of the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in USJ 25, Subang Jaya, when violence erupted over the relocation of the temple. -FMT
