SEMENYIH POLLS | On the campaign trail for BN candidate Zakaria Hanafi, former premier Najib Abdul Razak last night claimed there have been early signs of victory after an alleged lack of support for several Pakatan Harapan programmes in the area.
Speaking to some 1,000 people at Taman Tasik Kesuma, Najib claimed BN events promoted with his "bossku" tagline have attracted more support than Harapan's functions featuring its top leaders, including Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali and Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari.
"Azmin said I am afraid to come (and campaign in Semenyih) but I am not afraid. I'm also not sure if Azmin has received this kind of welcome.
"Tonight we held this programme in Taman Tasik Kesuma, more than 1,000 people came. At the MB's (Amirudin) ceramah, I saw that many chairs were empty," said Najib.
"What does that mean? That is an early sign we will win this time," said Najib during a ceramah held in Rinching, Semenyih, last night.
After the Cameron Highlands by-election, Najib is once again on the hustings in Semenyih, having made various appearances in programmes branded with his "malu apa bossku?" tagline.
Based on Malaysiakini's observations, Najib's programmes so far have been focused in polling districts where support for BN and Harapan are split almost in half, including Bukit Mahkota, Beranang, Bandar Tasik Kesuma and Bandar Rinching Seksyen 5-6.
Currently out on bail for 42 counts of criminal charges linked to the 1MDB scandal, Najib had adopted a more relaxed persona and regained popularity through his successful social media campaign which focused on attacking Harapan leaders and various government policies.
Earlier this week, Azmin, during his own ceramah at Kampung Rinching Hilir, had ribbed Najib in front of the audience over the latter's new "bossku" persona.
Azmin also took a dig at Najib's wife, Rosmah Mansor, questioning her absence in the events, unlike times when the latter was still prime minister.
Najib, however, told off Azmin, saying there was no need for either of them to discuss their wives on the campaign - Mkini
