KUALA LUMPUR: National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang is calling for those responsible for yesterday's molotov cocktail attack on a KK Super Mart outlet in Sungai Isap, Kuantan to be brought to justice.

"There is no place for violence in our society," he said in a statement, labelling the perpetrators as irresponsible parties.

"Every individual involved in such actions must be brought to justice. This act not only violates the laws of the country but also threatens the peace and security among the multiethnic, multiracial, and multi religious communities.

"Therefore, I call upon all parties to refrain from engaging in any actions that may incite racial polemics and undermine the sensitivity of our diverse society."

Appealing to the Malaysian public, Aaron called for a sense civic duty to uphold the safety and harmony of the nation by avoiding provocation and violence that could lead to conflict and turmoil.

"I hope that all parties can embrace the principles of understanding, respect and acceptance to foster harmony and diversity in Malaysian society," he said.

The ministry, committed to safeguarding national harmony, he added, has pledged to intensify intervention programmes in high-risk areas.

"I believe that the solidarity and spirit of togetherness among Malaysians will be the main defence against threats to national unity and harmony. National security and the unity of the people are collective responsibilities that we must all uphold."

Yesterday, it was reported that a second KK Mart convenience store was hit with a molotov cocktail attack in Kuantan after the first one in Bidor was reported on March 26.

The incident yesterday took place at 5.14am. The shop has only been in operation for two weeks.

Kuantan police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu said the incident caused a small fire at the shop's front entrance.

The incident, widely condemned by authorities and citizens alike, has ignited calls for justice and unity across the nation. - NST
