PETALING JAYA
The health ministry has reported a new case of mpox, bringing the total number of cases recorded in Malaysia to 12 since July 2023.

The ministry said the new case, confirmed on Jan 10, involved a 24-year-old Malaysian who was “involved in risky activities” and had travelled abroad within the 21 days prior to exhibiting symptoms.

“The patient sought treatment on Jan 10 and is currently in stable condition and being treated at a hospital,” a ministry statement said.

Malaysia previously recorded nine mpox cases in 2023 and two last year. The ministry said it will continue to monitor the mpox situation both domestically and internationally.
