Yong dares Musa to debate Sabah

By FMT Staff

SANDAKAN: Sharp-shooting Batu Sapi candidate Yong Teck Lee has invited Sabah Chief Minister Musa Aman to a public debate on Sabah's rights as enshrined in the 1963 Malaysia agreement.

He has proposed that the high-noon debate on Sunday, Oct 31, at Dewan Hakka here include the issue of 'Sabah autonomy' and the 'Sabah for Sabahans' concept.

Yong said the 'issues were not outdated as claimed by Musa" and were in fact 'very relevant.'

"I would like to remind the CM that there is no Malaysia without Sabah. These issues are not outdated...they are in fact long over due.

'We will be there at 11.30am. We will show him prove that the issues are not outdated....its long overdue by 47 years," he told journalists today.

On Tuesday, following nomination, Musa had dismissed SAPP's campaign slogans of 'Sabah for Sabahans" and "Autonomy for Sabah" as no longer applicable.

Yong, who is Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) president, is in a three-cornered fight for the Batu Sapi parliamentary seat which fell vacant following the death of incumbent Edmund Chong, from BN, on Oct 9.

The nine-day campaign which kicked off on Tuesday ends on Nov 3. Election is on Nov 4.

Meawnhile PKR is also proposing a debate between all three candidates at a hotel here also on Sunday Oct 31.

PKR director of communications Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said the official invitations to the debate will be sent to BN candidate Linda Tsen and Yong. PKR's candidate is Ansari Abdullah

He said all three candidates will be invited to present their plans for the voters in Batu Sapi. - FMT
