Merlimau and Kerdau: It is nomination day

It is nomination day for the Merlimau and Kerdau state by-elections in Malacca and Pahang respectively. Both contests are expected to see a straight fight between Barisan Nasional and PAS.

10.01am: At the close of nominations, only Hassanuddin and Syed Ibrahim had filed papers. Objection period begins.

9.15am: Both candidates are filing their nomination papers.

9.01am: Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyuddin Yassin, Pahang Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob and other Barisan leaders accompany Syed Ibrahim into the nomination centre.

9.00am: The nomination centre for the Kerdau state by-election at the Tun Razak Hall of the Temerloh Municipal Council building opens.

Returning Officer Datuk Tarif Abdul Rahman said the centre would be open for one hour to accept nominations, after which there would be an objection period of one hour.

KERDAU: It is nomination day for the contest for the Kerdau state seat on March 6.

It is expected to be a straight fight between Barisan Nasional’s Syed Ibrahim Syed Ahmad, 44, Special religious officer to Pahang Mentri Besar, and PAS’ Pahang information chief Hassanuddin Salim, 43, a businessman.

The Kerdau seat fell vacant following the death of Datuk Zaharuddin Abu Kassim, 63, of Barisan on Feb 12.

In the 2008 election, Zaharuddin defeated Hassanuddin by a majority of 1,615 votes. - Star
