Clearer shots from 2nd snippet of sex video vindicates Anwar

Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahimand his family must feel vindicated when the second snippet of the sex video implicating him hit the Internet on Wednesday. This time, the shots of the man said to resemble Anwar was clearer and it is now evident it could not have been him.

Not only was the physique of the broad-shouldered man much bulkier than the slim and fragile 63-year old Anwar, a shot that showed part of his face gave away the plot.

The facial features were different, the cheeks were too puffy and the man's neck was too thick, with rolls of flesh not evident in Anwar's. Only the hairline was similar.

The 1.46-minute snippet of the 21-minute video was entitled Papa Nurul Izzah Part II. It was uploaded at 1.30pm on YouTube but has since been removed for its sexual content.

It is believed the clip shows the final portion of the tape. The man was captured putting on his trousers.

The first snippet was released on April 4, two days before nominations for the Sarawak state elections were held. That clip has also been removed by YouTube.

The sex video fiasco hit the nation on the same day the Sarawak legislative assembly was dissolved, paving the way for the state's 10th election.

However, prompt checking by PKR investigators revealed that the hotel conference room used by the Datuk T trio who 'discovered' the tape had been booked by aides of former Malacca chief minister Rahim Thambi Chik and the bill paid by Perkasa treasurer Shauib Lazim.

That forced the trio who included business Shazryl Eskay Abdullah to confess they were behind the pornographic screening at the Carcosa Seri Negara hotel, which is illegal in Malaysia and punishable with jail terms of up to 5 years.

The three men said they wanted to expose Anwar's unsuitability to be prime minister and demanded his resignation within a week. They had shown the tape to selected journalists and PKR elected representatives, whom they urged to defect to the BN.

Despite the public confession and the breach of the law, the police have delayed charging the men or making any arrests. Instead, they have called on Shazryl to furnish his DNA, prompting speculation that the move was aimed to pressure Anwar into giving his DNA as well.

Anwar has denied involvment in the video. Speculation is rife that his political nemesis Prime Minister Najib Razak and the Umno elite had hatched the conspiracy to discredit him.

"I don't see why they want his DNA. The police should just focus on the part where the law has been broken which is the screening of the pornographic material in public," PKR vice president N Surendran told Malaysia Chronicle.

"Who are the police really serving – the Malaysian nation and public by punishing crimes and upholding the rule of law or the Barisan Nasional/UMNO political masters to dance to their latest tune to use the police to plumb to the lowest dregs of gutter politics in the history of Malaysia?" asked DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang in a statement to the media.
