Poverty festering but where are the funds?

According to sources, about RM30 million has been allocated for welfare but the Selangor government has been, until today, elusive on the matter.
PETALING JAYA: The Selangor state government led by Pakatan Rakyat has been silent on funds allocated for welfare projects while poverty issues are still plaguing the state.
Despite numerous calls to the state exco in charge of welfare Rodziah Ismail, FMT was unable to obtain information on the allocations for the state government projects and the list of organisations that were working with the state government on welfare projects.
According to a source close to the state government, about RM30 million had been allocated for welfare projects but there were no proper records of how the funds were being dispersed.
“The state welfare exco had been given a huge sum of about RM30 million and no one knows how the funds are being used as the poverty issues in the state are increasing,” he said, adding that the Selangor government’s promise to curb poverty was not fulfilled.
Another source who was working for a Pakatan MP said the state had yet to announce any welfare projects since the election.
He added that Rodziah should have by now allocated the budget and provide the list of welfare organisations that would be receiving the funds.
The source urged the state government to be more transparent on welfare issues and allocation of welfare funds.
