Contradicting Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) said it had received instructions from the state executive council (exco) not to extend PKR deputy president Azmin Ali's contract as PKNS director.
Its executive secretary Norita Mohd Sidek said that the Jan 8 letter informing Azmin that his contract will not be renewed was issued in accordance with the exco decision made in a Nov 13 meeting and confirmed on Dec 4 last year.
"PKNS would also like to inform that the decision to appoint board members is in the hands of the exco and not the general manager in Clause 4(1) of the Enactment which governs PKNS," she said in a statement late yesterday.
This statement totally contradicts the explanation by MB Abdul Khalid, who yesterday claimed it was PKNS general manager Othman Omar who decided not to extend Azmin's contract.
Othman himself is due to end his services by the end of this month.
Speaking at a post-exco meeting press conference, Abdul Khalid (left) said the letter to not extend Azmin's contract was issued by Othman and the exco endorsed it after Azmin, who is also Selangor PKR chief, accepted the decision.
Selangor PKR has previously demanded that the MB explain himself in the matter, as the state party chapter was not informed of the decision.
Selangor PKR argued this contravened a resolution made in a PKR congress last year, where each political appointment and demotion must first get party endorsement.
PKNS's statement adds fuel to PKR's internal scuffle in the lead-up to the upcoming party election and prolongs the extended fissure between Azmin and Abdul Khalid.
