KJ: This is why we don't have Cabinet chat group

Umno youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin today seemed to have taken cognisance from the leaked PAS conversation on mobile messaging service Whatsapp, saying that this was why Cabinet did not have such a chat group of their own.

"This is why we don't have a Cabinet WhatsApp group," Khairy (left) wrote tongue-in-cheek inTwitter after sharingMalaysiakini's report on the matter.

The leaked messages yesterday showed that PAS members have been actively discussing possibilities of leaving Pakatan, and about possible co-operation with Umno in Selangor to keep Abdul Khalid Ibrahim as menteri besar.

Political analyst Wan Saiful Wan Jan weighed in by asking if the leaked conversation amounted to "betrayal", as claimed by some PAS members, or a "whistleblowing" instead.

"PAS WhatsApp. Betrayal or whistleblowing? What differentiates it?" he asked in Twitter.

The only PKR member who has offered a response on the matter so far is My Watch chairperson R Sri Sanjeevan, who on Twittersaid that it is "too late (for PAS) to regain our trust".

"Internal message has leaked and the entire world has seen it so no need to justify it now- too late to regain our trust again," he tweeted, while tagging Anwar Ibrahim in his post.

Meanwhile, The Rakyat Postreported today that Lawyers for Liberty (LFL) executive director Eric Paulsen (right) described the messages as "shocking".

He reportedly said the messages, which was also racial in nature, was something that would normally be expected from the likes of Umno, Perkasa and Isma.

"The theme of these messages are to retain political power based on race and religion rather than what PKR and DAP and many supporters of Pakatan as well as the people had been led to believe," he reportedly said.
