WOUNDED UMNO IS CROWING LIKE A 'BLIND COCKEREL': CHINA MUST BRACE FOR MORE TROUBLE

WOUNDED UMNO IS CROWING LIKE A 'BLIND COCKEREL': CHINA MUST BRACE FOR MORE TROUBLE
The Chinese government is now becoming the latest target and an Umno currency to shore up flagging Malay support. Khairy Jamaluddin (KJ) should let his prestigious English education to get the better of him or end up facing more ridicule.
Close on the heels of an Umno mouthpiece newspaper acting tough towards China’s envoy to Malaysia, the Umno youth chief is only making matters worse. His statement that outsiders should not interfere in the internal affairs of Malaysia makes him ring hollow.
Get real young man. China is no novice when it comes to trans-border relations.
Commenting on China’s ambassador to Malaysia, Huang Huikang’s visit to Petaling Street last Friday, KJ said the ambassador’s statement could be interpreted as interfering in the affairs of the country.
Yes as a sovereign nation, we have a right to manage our internal affairs. But to rebut by charging that the envoy has “no right to take action and issue statements which can appear as interference into our affairs,” (Free Malaysia Today) is by local standards what we call ‘bodoh sombong’ (foolish pride).
In this 21st century the world is a thoroughly networked place of business and governance. The four paradigms – social, economy, politics and environment is no more a prerogative fenced by national borders.
The fact that Najib and Rosmah deem it fit to be landing on a spruced up new jetliner on American soil, and gleaming in the limelight of receiving a gold medal in New York right now is an attestation of how much one needs to work hard at bagging endorsements outside our tiny shoreline.
The fact that Malaysia has to ratify international laws and demands and participate in the 70th anniversary event of the United Nations is also an indication of how much a small nation apes for the powerful nations and the global community’s support.
China has a long tradition of not “interfering” but as an economic powerhouse in the region, KJ should have known not to ‘menghina’ (embarrass/insult) another country just to score brownies among the locals here or as it appears now, with the US.
This Umno styled politicking is not going to help Malaysia especially when its Ringgit is slipping on a greasy pole of the 1MDB doings. God knows what is next after the TPPA is signed!
Even India is forging big-time relations with China. Now, that too should be an eye opener for the young and fledging hopeful Umno leader.
So stop your home-grown antics and grow up to face the fast changing geo-political game plan. Just because your boss is in the US sapping up an American glorification does not mean that you can slap the China government with ridiculing statements.
Instead, ask yourself what are the undercurrents of the envoy’s presence and statement in Petaling Street. Learn from the wiser Sultans of centuries ago who did not attack the goose for the eggs.
For KJ to say, “we need to send a signal to other countries that whatever happens in Malaysia is our business”, well why not get your boss the prime minister to say that at the UN right now and to the US as well? - MAILBAG
