Puad: Muhyiddin's open letter proves Johor sultan's point

The manner in which Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president Muhyiddin Yassin responded to Johor Sultan Ibrahim Ismail Sultan Iskandar proves the monarch's point that he was "arrogant", claims Umno supreme council member Mohd Puad Zarkashi.
"Writing an open letter proves Muhyiddin is indeed arrogant and proud. He could have sought an audience with Tuanku to explain.
"Johoreans know his attitude towards the state palace when he served as menteri besar, that was why he was transferred to the federal government," he said in a statement today.
The statement was sent out in an information blast by the Special Affairs Department (Jasa).
The Johor sultan in a speech last Thursday praised Johor Menteri Besar Mohamed Khaled Nordin but criticised the previous government leadership.
"I have a good relationship with the current menteri besar unlike two previous menteris besar who were arrogant and only knew how to follow the federal government"," said Puad, who is also Jasa director-general.
The monarch did not name names but the two immediate predecessors were Abdul Ghani Othman (1995-2013) and Muhyiddin (1986-1995).
Muhyiddin in an open letter said it was up to the people to judge whether standing up for the interest of the people count as being proud and arrogant.
He also defended its track record, highlighting the state's growth and poverty reduction.
Muhyiddin also disclosed that shortly after his sacking as deputy prime minister, Sultan Ibrahim had expressed sympathy in their meeting.
However, Puad disputed Muhyiddin's track record, raising controversies during his Johor administration including the Dana Johor unit trust scheme.
"Muhyiddin promised that the price of each unit would go up to RM5 and embarked on a campaign to encourage village folks to take on debt to buy the units.

"What happened next? They fell to as low as 20 sen. The bank went after the village folks and (Muhyiddin's successor) Abdul Ghani had to propose to then prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad to takeover the units.
"Mahathir's response was that Dana Johor had no assets. He said if it was Malaysia Airlines, the government could at least buy back its shares as it had assets," he said.
Puad also criticised Muhyiddin's privatisation policy, including the privatisation of the state's water services.- Mkini
