Man claims trial to threatening to punch preacher Zamri Vinoth

Muslim preacher Zamri Vinoth.
KANGAR: A former radio presenter claimed trial at the Magistrate’s Court here today to threatening to injure Muslim preacher Zamri Vinoth.
S Shankar Ganesh was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code with saying he wanted to punch Zamri in the face in the early hours of May 2.
If convicted, he faces a maximum jail term of seven years, a fine or both.
Magistrate Norhayati Ibrahim allowed Shankar bail of RM5,000 and set June 16 for mention.
When contacted, Shankar questioned the charge against him.
He claimed he had been angry with Zamri for calling him in the middle of the night.
“There are over 1,000 police reports filed against him for his statement insulting Hinduism. Why has no action been taken until now?” he added.
Zamri was previously remanded for four days for investigation into claims that he had caused disunity and misused network facilities in a video in which he allegedly insulted Hinduism. He has denied the accusations.
Mohamad Fuzi Harun, who was inspector-general of police at the time, said 867 reports had been received against Zamri in April.
Zamri also has several criminal records for rape, criminal breach of trust and assault. - FMT
