PETALING JAYA: Former Umno leader Salleh Said Keruak, who has applied to join PKR online, today said he is fully committed to realising the party’s reform agenda for the benefit of the people.
The former multimedia and communications minister confirmed that he has been informed by PKR president Anwar Ibrahim that the party leadership needs some time to discuss his application.
Yesterday, Anwar said in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, that although there is no strong opposition to Salleh joining the party, his membership approval is still pending.
Commenting on concerns that Salleh was an Umno loyalist, Anwar said he himself was “quite a committed member of Umno in the past”.
“To me, what is not negotiable is that you must adhere to the reform agenda – accept the fact this is the party of reform,” he said.
In a post on his website today, Salleh said: “I hope to be given the opportunity to contribute with all my ability towards the advocation of progressive multiracial politics that emphasise stability and moderation, for Sabah specifically, and Malaysia in general.
“I would also give my full commitment and cooperation to the party (PKR) in realising the reform agenda and politics of change for the benefit of the rakyat.
“I leave it to the party to discuss and consider my application.”
Salleh applied to join PKR online in August, and there had been talk that Anwar would induct him into the party at a PKR convention in Kota Kinabalu yesterday.
He left Umno in December last year during the exodus in Sabah Umno. - FMT
