Public jaded by political squabbling, says PBB’s Fadillah

Fadillah Yusof, senior vice-president of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu, says there is a disconnect between Putrajaya and the people who voted them into power.
PETALING JAYA: A former federal minister has reminded the Pakatan Harapan government not to be entangled in “divisive and polarising” issues, saying there appears to be a disconnect between Putrajaya and the people who voted them into power.
“The rakyat believes the current ruling government no longer stands for change but is working for the status quo,” said Fadillah Yusof, senior vice-president of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB).
PBB is the senior partner in the Sarawak ruling coalition of Gabungan Parti Sarawak.
In a Facebook post in conjunction with the new year, Fadillah, who is the Petra Jaya MP, said the PH government was too engrossed in polemics due to controversies sparked by their own doing.
“The government appears to have no language to talk to the rakyat,” he said.
” Disengage and cease your respective polemics immediately.”
Fadillah also did not spare the opposition, saying politicians from both sides of the divide had been too busy “discussing and pandering to issues which are divisive and which polarise the country further”.
“The rakyat are clearly jaded by the disunity shown by those who are supposed to lead and govern the country, whether they are in the ruling or opposing sides,” he said.
He said politicians were not only out of touch but fighting “an existential battle to stay relevant”.
“As a result, the rakyat and their plights have nearly become invisible in more ways than one.”
Fadillah said the victims – as politicians quarrelled over polemics – included the youths, especially those ready to enter adulthood and working life.
“Young Malaysians bristling with ambition are frustrated and disenchanted over the gloomy economy and lack of jobs. And this is a rising trend,” he said, adding that youth disenchantment could be disastrous to governments as had been shown in many countries experiencing political unrests.
“If the trend is to continue and proliferate, our youths could potentially be affected similarly.

“Future generations will judge us if we do not act collectively and decisively at this moment in showing our love for this beloved country,” he added. - FMT
