KK hospital staff no longer have to cut own hair as volunteer hairdressers keep them well-groomed

Health care staff Sabah Woman and Child Hospital in Kota Kinabalu getting their haircuts by volunteers barbers starting off the campaign on Tuesday.
KOTA KINABALU: Their personal appearance may be the last thing on frontliners' minds as they battle the Covid-19 threat, but a group of hairdressers are ensuring that health workers are properly groomed – beneath their protective suits, anyway.
Hairdressers from three local saloons turned up to provide hair grooming services to doctors, nurses and health workers at the emergency department of the Sabah Women and Children Hospital in Likas here.
A hospital official said 60 of them received free grooming services from them.
He added that having short hair was needed as it got very hot beneath the impermeable personal protective equipment (PPE) suits.
“Keeping the hair short and even shaving the head is not only convenient – but it can reduce the chance of spreading infection via the hair, ” said the hospital staff who declined to be named.
He said hospital staff had resorted to cutting their own hair as they would sweat a lot when wearing PPEs and would have to bathe and wash their hair several times a day.
He said the volunteer hairdressers were from MJ Saloon, We Saloon as well as Jo Barber Shop and Saloon. - Star
