Police inspector claims trial to raping Mongolian women

Police inspector Hazrul Hizham Ghazali.
PETALING JAYA: The police inspector charged with raping two Mongolian women at a hotel here earlier this month claimed trial to the eight charges today.
Hazrul Hizham Ghazali, who is attached to the district police station, was slapped with six counts of raping a 20-year-old Mongolian woman on April 11.
He was said to have used his authority as a senior officer to force the woman’s consent.
He also faces another charge of molesting the woman on the same day, and a further two counts of raping another 36-year-old woman at the same time and place.
If found guilty, he faces a jail term of 10 to 30 years as well as a whipping.
The maximum penalty for those convicted of molestation, meanwhile, is 10 years in jail or a fine.
Judge Norshila Kamaruddin allowed Hazrul to post bail of RM27,000 with one surety for all rape and molest charges and set June 2 for next case mention.
Deputy public prosecutor Asnawi Abu Hanipah had asked the court not to grant Hazrul bail as he might harass potential witnesses.
Hazrul’s lawyer Shah Rizal Abdul Manan however told the court that the issue would not arise as the witnesses are under protection.
Yesterday, Hazrul claimed trial at Klang Sessions Court to two counts of abuse of power in exploiting the duo for sexual purposes.
He has also been suspended from official duty. - FMT
