Loke: I'm not eligible to receive pension yet despite having 3 jobs

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said he is still not eligible to receive a pension despite holding three positions at once as a minister, MP and member of the Negeri Sembilan state assembly.

According to him, this is because there are still some provisions in the salary scheme that need to be complied with before qualifying someone to receive a pension from the government.

"Firstly, I am not yet eligible for a pension. I’m only 47 years old and to get a pension after retiring from the ministerial position, you must at least have reached the age of 50.

"During the temporary stop in 2020, other people could get it, I couldn't because I didn't qualify," he told reporters at a press conference held at the Transport Ministry in Putrajaya today.

Because of this, he was unsure of which pension he should claim.

On Jan 27, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said politicians holding several portfolios or positions in the government should be “morally responsible” by opting for only one pension scheme.

But instead of implementing it as a policy, Anwar said the decision will be left up to the politicians.

Loke said he welcomed the suggestion.

“This change is a big challenge and we are ready to sacrifice,” he said, noting that leaders must set a good example for others.

There should not be any issues in adopting the position with Anwar’s advice, he added.
