KOTA KINABALU: More than RM75 million in assessment arrears remain unpaid to Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK), says mayor Sabin Samitah.

The outstanding amount comprises RM54.3 million in arrears, interests totalling RM19.21 million and legal notices for payment amounting to RM2.16 million.

“In an effort to encourage the payment of these arrears, a 75% discount will be given on interest and legal notice payments only for the first quarter, on the condition that tax arrears are paid at once,” Sabin said in a statement.

He said a 5% rebate on the current year’s assessment rate would be offered if ratepayers make the entire year’s payment in one lump sum on or before March 31.

He said in the previous year, DBKK filed 11 assessment rate claim notices amounting to RM30,485.73, in addition to seven summons cases to recover RM64,518.24.

During the same year, a total of 68 cases from previous years were brought to court. These cases were successfully resolved, resulting in a total collection of RM634,051.52.

“DBKK urges taxpayers to promptly settle their arrears to prevent any additional charges or legal action,” Sabin said. - FMT
