MACC has identified 15 companies under the control of the leader’s son so far, the source said.

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is investigating a senior leader from a northern state over an alleged conflict of interest in several projects involving him and his son.

The leader is suspected of appointing several companies linked to him for a RM300,000 supply project and allegedly appointing several more firms linked to his son for road maintenance works with a RM1 million allocation from the menteri besar’s office.

“It is believed that the projects were monopolised by the son of the senior leader through several companies under the son’s control,” a source said.

“The offences are believed to have been committed from January 2023 to March 2024 and the companies are also suspected of providing documents with false details while getting a commission of about 5% of the project’s value.

“MACC has identified 15 companies under the control of the leader’s son so far. The projects carried out include the supply of mineral water, hampers and gifts,” the source said.

MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki confirmed that investigations are under way. - FMT
