Don't screen 'The New Village' if it glories CPM - Dr M's son Mukhriz

The New Village should not be screened to the public if it is seen as glorifying the Communist Party of Malaya (CPM), Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Mukhriz Tun Mahathir said today.
Instead, he said, films like "Tanda Putera", which was about the true history of the country and glorified the deeds and sacrifices by members of the security forces in defending the country's peace and sovereignty should be screened for public viewing.
"The film 'Tanda Putera' should be appreciated, especially by the young people, in recognition of the contributions and sacrifices by members of the security forces in defending the country," he said in his speech at the presentation of Aidilfitri contributions to children and widows, as well as former members of the armed forces at Kem Lapangan Terbang near here yesterday.
The New Village, which is locally produced, is scheduled to be screened to the public on Aug 22.
Meanwhile, in conjunction with Warriors' Day, Mukhriz called on the people in the state to think of the sacrifices made by security members in defending the country.
"The intrusion in Lahad Datu, Sabah, made us realise that the peace we have been enjoying so far cannot be taken for granted.
"We are fortunate to have a security team which is efficient, highly spirited and brave, as well as always ready to face the enemies and fight until their last drop of blood," he added.
