IGP: CBT probe in RM1.5m renovation of police HQ takes time

The police are still investigating the alleged criminal breach of trust case involving a RM1.5 million contract to refurbish and repair the Bukit Aman police headquarters, said inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar.
“We are investigating it (but) we need time because this involves abuse of systems.
“It takes time for us to go through all the documents before we complete our investigation and forward our recommendation to the attorney-general's office,” he told a press conference in Bukit Aman today, when asked for an update on the case.
According to Bernama yesterday, nine people have been arrested so far in relation to the case, including at least one senior police officer, and two other cops.
TheSun had previously reported that an internal audit by the Home Ministry had found that the RM1.5 million contract had not been fulfilled, even though payments had been made.
“Sources told theSun that the money was siphoned out in several dozen transactions through the use of doctored papers carrying forged signatures of two police directors and a civil engineer of the Public Works Department (PWD).
“The money was meant for various repairs and replacement of fire doors and air conditioning systems at Tower 2 – the old office block of the federal police,” the report said.
Abu Sayyaf militants
Khalid also told reporters that the police are seeking to have the Abu Sayyaf militants linked to the kidnappings in Sabah, to be charged in Malaysia.
He said this following reports in Philippine media outlets yesterday that authorities there have captured Abu Sayyaf member Saddam Jailani, whose sub-group is accused of being involved in the kidnapping of two Malaysians and one South Korean in Sabah.
We will apply to bring the criminals to face charges in court here. We need to negotiate first on how to go about with it,” Khalid told reporters.
He confirmed receiving reports from the Philippine authorities on the capture.
The three kidnapping victims were Malaysians Bernard Then and Thien Nyuk Fun who were abducted in May, and South Korean Hong Nwi-seong in January.
Thien was subsequently released, but Then was reportedly beheaded on Nov 17, while Hong reportedly succumbed to illness during his captivity in October. -Mkini
