Vignes eyes Sungai Siput, while MIC seeks more state seats in Perak

MIC president SA Vigneswaran has indicated that he may contest the Sungai Siput Parliament seat in the next general election.

This is amid a push by MIC for more state seats in Perak.

“MIC will contest here (Sungai Siput) possibly I (will contest), but even if I’m not here, someone else will contest,” Vigneswaran was quoted as saying by Astro Awani today.

Sungai Siput was formerly an MIC stronghold and was the longtime seat of former party president S Samy Vellu before it was captured by the opposition in 2008.

It has eluded the party ever since.

Meanwhile, Vigneswaran (above) said he has met with BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to discuss the possibility of MIC contesting in at least one or two more winnable Perak state seats.

“It is of no use if the seats we get are projected for defeat in the GE,” he said.

He said Zahid was understanding of the request so that an Indian can be among the Perak exco members.

In the 2018 polls, MIC won one single seat in Perak, the Tapah parliamentary seat. - Mkini
