The Bloomberg article alleged that talks were held on setting up a casino in the Forest City development in Johor. The report has been dismissed as being untrue.

PETALING JAYA: Berjaya Corporation has gone to the police over Bloomberg’s report that Berjaya founder Vincent Tan was involved in talks with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on opening a casino in Forest City, Johor.

A Berjaya statement said the company’s legal representative filed police reports on Friday, urging the police to determine the identity of the unnamed source quoted in the report.

Berjaya alleged that the publication or republication of the articles “was made with malicious intent, aimed to cause political upheaval, undermine the public trust and distort public perception” of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, and the prime minister.

The company accused the unnamed source of spreading untrue and false statements and said none of the media outlets that published the reports had sought to verify the allegations before they were published.

The article was published by the Bloomberg news service and reproduced by The Edge Singapore as it was a syndicated report. The Business Times of Singapore quoted its own sources as confirming the meeting.

Berjaya reiterated that Tan had not participated in any such discussions with any reported parties, including Anwar, Genting Group’s Lim Kok Thay, as well as representatives of Sultan Ibrahim.

Anwar and Genting have also denied the report, with the prime minister calling for action to be taken over what he described as lies in Bloomberg’s article. - FMT
