Several runners who took part in the Garmin Run event took to social media, saying they encountered a man who fainted at the 19km mark of the 21km half marathon.
Putrajaya police chief Aidi Sham Mohamed said the man was taken to hospital after fainting mid-run, Utusan Malaysia reported. Medical officers tried to resuscitate him but he was pronounced dead at 6.54am.
“Preliminary checks found the victim had no history of illnesses,” said Aidi, adding that an autopsy was conducted at 1pm to identify the cause of death.
The Garmin Run is part of a series of endurance races held in 13 cities around the world, 10 of them in Asia and three in the US. Races are held over 10km and 21km in the men, women, and vetarans categories. - FMT
