Free parking in Penang until app outage is fixed, says state govt

BUKIT MERTAJAM: No fines will be issued to some 3,000 vehicle owners in Penang who could not pay parking tickets under the Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) and Penang City Council (MBPP) since day Thursday (Jan 2).

Penang Local Government and Town and Country Planning Committee chairman H’ng Mooi Lye said this was due to iOS users' inability to access the Penang Smart Parking (PSP) version 3.0 app after the latest update launch but a glitch arose due to the incompatibility of the new biometric login with the account data of the previous version (2.0.6).

"Android users had no problems but iOS (users) are still facing issues that we hope to resolve by today. Hence, I have issued an order that so long as PSP cannot be used at MBSP and MBPP parking lots, there will be no enforcement of any fines.

"Users need not worry because if the PSP does not function, they cannot pay parking fees at MBSP and MBPP parking lots. Users can park without payment and no fines will be issued," he said on Friday (Jan 3).

He was speaking after the swearing-in ceremony of 2025 MBSP where 24 councillors took the oath of office at the MBSP City Tower, with Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow in attendance.- Bernama
