Courage is one of the most important leadership qualities. It is courage that causes the leader to launch and is also what causes people to rally around a successful leader.

The Key Leadership Qualities Of Courage.

The leadership quality of courage, wonderfully enough can be developed.  Courage is not something you are born with but it is something you can learn.

Here are some keys to courage.

1) Courageous People Are Bold. 

Courage is something that is a habit.  You can develop the habit of courage by practicing it.  Whenever you have a tendency to hesitate or back off from a challenge, force yourself to go forward.

Practice boldness. Practice audacity.

Somehow when you launch yourself continually, things seem to work for you.  Forces and people and circumstances conspire together to help you accomplish things in ways that you cannot now dream of.

2) Courageous People Take Action.

A second key to courage is the willingness to initiate and take action.  They do not wait for someone else to do something. Leaders are attack oriented.

3) Courageous People Stay The Course.

One mark of a courageous person is the ability to stay the course.  This is often called courageous patience. No matter how tough it gets, no matter how much tension or stress you face, stay the course and hang in there.  Sometimes if you stay the course long enough and hard enough the sun will break through the clouds and things will happen for you.

4) Courageous People Take Risks.

Remember that the future belongs to the risk takers.  There is no greatness in life amongst those who avoid taking risks.  However, it does not mean that you have to risk life, limb and everything you own.  It just means that you take calculated risks in the direction of moving forward.

Do everything possible to minimize risks.  Consider the worst possible outcome but then dare to go forward.  Perhaps no other quality distinguishes leaders from non-leaders than their willingness and their daring to push forward.

Selangor assembly erupts in 'DAP communist' shouts after PAS called out over Selangor Sultan's rebuke letter

SHAH ALAM, Feb 29 — A commotion erupted in the Selangor State Legislative Assembly today after the PAS assemblymen were asked to comment on the Selangor Sultan's rebuke against the Islamist party's president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang.

Parti Amanah Negara's Batu Tiga assemblyman Danial Al-Rashid Haron started his debate by urging Paya Jaras assemblyman Datuk Dr Ab Halim Tamuri — who received the letter in his capacity as the Selangor PAS chief — to explain the issue.

"When the two opposition representatives were debating and paying tribute to the Sultan, Paya Jaras and Ijok did not touch on the letter that was issued by the Sultan to the PAS president," he said, referring to Ab Halim and Jefri Mejan, both from the Islamist party.

Danial then gave the floor to Ab Halim to explain the matter, but the latter said he would leave the matter to Abdul Hadi himself.

Opposition assemblymen then defended Ab Halim by saying that the matter had nothing to do with the debate today and should be left outside the state assembly.

Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia's Taman Medan assemblyman Dr Afif Bahardin then raised Standing Order 36(6), claiming that Danial imputed improper motives towards his fellow Perikatan Nasional lawmaker.

But the request was rejected by Deputy Speaker of the Selangor State Legislative Assembly, Mohd Kamri Kamaruddin, saying the claim was baseless.

Mohd Kamri then ordered Danial to continue with his debate, but the Opposition requested Danial to retract his statement. The Opposition was angered when Mohd Kamri denied the request.

"What if I said ‘DAP communist?” Dr Afif angrily asked Kamri, and other Opposition lawmakers shouted "DAP communist” repeatedly after Danial was instructed to resume his debate.

Both Afif and Danial did not receive any disciplinary action from Mohd Kamri, which caused Datuk Seri Azmin Ali (Bersatu-Hulu Kelang) to remind Mohd Kamri to warn all assemblymen to not use the sitting as a platform to attack others on irrelevant matters.

Earlier, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah today directly censured PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang over an open letter urging the Malay Rulers, among others, to defend Islam in the country, calling this an affront to the country’s royal institution.

In a statement released online, the Selangor Royal Office said the Sultan was extremely disappointed with Hadi’s statement, the contents of which showed that the PAS president did not read a letter the Sultan Sharafuddin sent him before that. - malaymail

Padu ‘tak mesra rakyat’, dakwa Ahli Parlimen Tanjung Piai

KUALA LUMPUR: Seorang Ahli Parlimen kerajaan mendakwa laman sesawang pendaftaran Pangkalan Data Pusat (Padu) tidak mesra pengguna yang mungkin menyebabkan rakyat tercicir daripada menikmati bantuan subsidi bersasar.

Sehubungan itu, Wee Jeck Seng (BN-Tanjung Piai) mencadangkan kerajaan melanjutkan tempoh pendaftaran yang sepatutnya tamat 31 Mac depan untuk memberi peluang lebih ramai mengemas kini maklumat dengan sistem lebih baik tanpa mengelakkan kekeliruan.

Menurutnya, pendaftaran Padu boleh dikatakan agak leceh kerana perlu menjawab 40 soalan daripada lapan bahagian berbeza, selain mengisi maklumat sulit.

“Jika terlepas atau tidak berjaya mengisi mana-mana satu soalan pun dianggap tidak lengkap.

“Rakyat juga perlu isi maklumat yang sulit,” katanya dalam perbahasan Titah Diraja di Dewan Rakyat.

Beliau turut mengingatkan kerajaan supaya tidak menghukum rakyat yang mungkin terlepas menikmati bantuan bersasar seperti petrol hanya kerana kesulitan pendaftaran Padu.

Padu dilancarkan pada 2 Jan dengan sasaran untuk memastikan penyampaian berkesan subsidi bersasar.

Semalam, media melaporkan seramai 3,683,944 warganegara dan penduduk tetap di Malaysia telah mendaftar dalam sistem Padu setakat 21 Feb lepas.

Kementerian Ekonomi dalam jawapan bertulis di Dewan Rakyat =hari ini memaklumkan daripada jumlah itu 1,699,771 telah selesai mengemas kini dan memperakukan maklumat dan data. - FMT

Sanusi to submit representations to AGC to dismiss sedition charges

SHAH ALAM: Kedah menteri besar Sanusi Nor’s defence team will submit representations to the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) to dismiss two sedition charges against him relating to his remarks about the appointment of the Selangor menteri besar and the establishment of the unity government at a political talk.

His counsel, Awang Armadajaya Awang Mahmud, told the High Court here today he had received instructions from Sanusi to send the representations within four months.

“There are several matters not contained in the documents we would like to raise with the AGC. Therefore, I request that the trial date not be set till the representations are decided,” he said during the first mention of the case in front of Justice Aslam Zainuddin.

Deputy public prosecutor Abdul Malik Ayob urged the court to set the trial dates, despite having no issue with the defence’s submission of the representations.

He also said the list of prosecution witnesses would be handed to the defence team, and that about 10 witnesses would be called to testify.

Aslam set May 3 for the decision on the representations, and for the trial to run on July 22, 23, 26, 29, 30 as well as Aug 5, 6, 9, 12 and 13.

Sanusi, the Perikatan Nasional election director, had maintained his plea of not guilty when the two sedition charges were read to him, following the transfer of the case from the Selayang sessions court to the High Court here on Feb 1.

He is facing two counts of uttering seditious words at Simpang 4 in Taman Selayang Mutiara-Kampung Bendahara, Gombak near here at 11pm on July 11 last year.

The charges under Section 4(1)(b) of the Sedition Act 1948, which is punishable under Section 4(1) of the same Act, carry a fine of RM5,000 or a maximum jail sentence of three years, or both, if convicted. - FMT

Amendment won’t affect 6 MPs who backed PM, says Mas Ermieyati

 

Bersatu women’s chief Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said the amendment to the party’s constitution would not have a retrospective effect on the six Bersatu MPs but will apply to future cases.

PETALING JAYA: The six Bersatu MPs who pledged their support for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim will not be affected after the party amends its constitution this Saturday to bar members from unilaterally switching support.

Bersatu women’s chief Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said the amendment should not be applied retrospectively and affect their seats, Utusan Malaysia reported.

“I think the law would be unfair if it has retrospective effect. From what I understand, it won’t be so,” she was quoted as saying.

However, Mas Ermieyati said the amendment would be applied to other MPs intending to support Anwar in the future.

“Anyway, let’s see how the special Bersatu general assembly goes this Saturday.”

Earlier today, Bukit Gantang MP Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal and Gua Musang MP Azizi Abu Naim expressed their readiness to vacate their seats if the party amends its constitution this Saturday to bar members from unilaterally switching support.

Syed Hussin and Azizi were among six Bersatu MPs who have declared their support for the prime minister. They said they did so to obtain development allocations for their constituencies.

The other four MPs are Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjong Karang), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar) and Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan).

On Jan 29, Bersatu secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin said the party’s Supreme Council had approved the amendment of Article 10 of its constitution to ensure the compliance and loyalty of elected representatives.

The announcement came after the six MPs declared their support for Anwar’s unity government without leaving the party, enabling them to circumvent a provision in the Federal Constitution that would have required them to vacate their seats. - FMT

Ringgit rises as BNM’s statement boosts local traders

 

KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit ended higher against the US dollar today, spurred by Bank Negara Malaysia’s comments on its valuation.

Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd chief economist Afzanizam Rashid said the central bank’s statement has provided an impetus for local traders even as market participants continue to observe the timing for the first US rate cut.

Afzanizam said the local note appreciated against the US dollar today with the US Dollar Index (DXY) falling 0.13% to 103.838 points.

“This happens as the market awaits the US personal consumption expenditures (PCE) inflation report tonight,” he added.

At 6pm, the ringgit went up to 4.7400/4.7455 against the greenback compared with yesterday’s close of 4.7690/4.7730.

Meanwhile, the ringgit was traded mostly higher against a basket of major currencies.

The local currency rose against the British pound to 6.0042/6.0111 from 6.0199/6.0250 yesterday, strengthened versus the euro to 5.1434/5.1493 from 5.1510/5.1553 previously, but fell vis-a-vis the Japanese yen to 3.1642/3.1681 from 3.1635/3.1664 at yesterday’s close.

The ringgit also performed better against other Asean currencies.

It edged up versus the Thai baht to 13.2140/13.2345 from yesterday’s close of 13.2252/13.2421 and was up against the Singapore dollar at 3.5257/3.5301 compared to 3.5405/3.5437 previously.

The local note also gained versus the Philippine peso to 8.43/8.44 from 8.47/8.49 yesterday and inched up vis-a-vis the Indonesian rupiah to 301.5/302 from 303.8/304.3 - FMT

MYAirline in talks with new investors

KUALA LUMPUR: MYAirline said today it is in talks with “promising new investors after a sudden and unilateral termination of a share purchase agreement by an investor from the Middle East”.

“In respect of this termination, all options are being considered, including possible legal action,” it said in a statement, Bernama reported.

Other potential investors have expressed interest in reviving the brand, it said.

MYAirline said it is in “regular contact with all aviation regulators and committed to fulfilling any conditions and requirements mandated by the aviation regulators to regain its licences and resume operations”.

Earlier this month, FMT reported that transport minister Loke Siew Fook said he met with parties looking to invest in the troubled low-cost carrier.

He said the potential backers consist of a partnership between Middle East investors and a local company. However, at that point, Loke said it was premature for the ministry to reveal more details.

“I made it very clear to them that as far as our policies are concerned, 51% (of the airline) must be owned by a local company,” he said.

Loke said the potential investors asked for advice from the ministry on “the way forward” for MYAirline, which abruptly suspended operations on Oct 12 last year after citing “severe financial challenges” 11 months after it took to the skies.

He told the potential investors that they should look beyond domestic flights and how the airline could position itself to make it “more attractive”.

However, he stressed that any commercial decision the investors make would be entirely up to them. “As far as the government is concerned, they have to comply with all of our processes and regulations,” he said.

Apart from the requirement for 51% local equity, he said, the airline would need to have two licences – an air operator certificate from the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia and an air service licence from the Malaysian Aviation Commission.

Last month, Loke stressed that any investor looking to revive MYAirline must make sure all passengers had been given refunds and that monies owed to the staff had been paid. - FMT

Stop insulting rulers, dividing Muslims - Selangor sultan cautions Hadi

 

Selangor ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has cautioned PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang against issuing statements that can cause division among Muslims in the country.

In a statement, the ruler said he was very disappointed with Hadi’s remark on Feb 20 for all Muslims to safeguard their faith, including judges, lawyers, politicians, and rulers.

“Following the remark, I wrote a letter to Hadi, via Selangor PAS commissioner Ab Halim Tamuri.

“Among others, I note that Hadi did not read in full and understand the gist of the sultan's speech during the National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs (MKI)’s 71st meeting in Putrajaya on Feb 15,” the sultan said in the strongly worded statement shared on the Selangor Royal Office Facebook page.

During the speech, the ruler had called for calm following the Federal Court’s recent decision to strike down 16 provisions of the Kelantan syariah criminal code.

Elaborating, Sultan Sharafuddin, in particular, took offence to Hadi’s remark which urged the Malay rulers to have a vision and to be wise in viewing the hereafter, not just the interests in this world alone.

“The remark is uncivilised and unsuitable from the cultural angle of the Malays who always respect and guard their manners when airing their views, and advising the Malay rulers.

“Hadi’s statement is not just confusing, but can also cause unrest, which can ultimately lead to division among the Malays and Muslims in the country,” said the sultan.

Sultan Sharafuddin noted that Hadi would have understood the real message behind the ruler’s statement had he taken more effort to read and understand the decree.

“Why is he (Hadi) now questioning the Federal Constitution’s status as the supreme law of the land when Islam had been recognised as the country’s official religion since the Constitution was enacted in 1957?

“I would like to advise him to be more careful in the future and not repeat his acts of insulting the Malay rulers via his statements that can cause division among Muslims in the country.

“I also urge all politicians and leaders to not use Islam as a tool for their political gain.”

Hadi violates his MP’s oath

The Facebook post was also appended with a copy of the letter written by the sultan to Hadi, who is also the Marang MP.

In the letter, Sultan Sharafuddin asked that by questioning the legitimacy of the Constitution, Hadi was going against the very law he pledged to uphold during the various terms he had been sworn in as a parliamentarian.

“Does Hadi not respect the Federal Constitution as the supreme law of the land any longer?

“Does this mean that Hadi is deliberately playing political polemics to gain Malay, Muslim support?”

The sultan then pointed out that it was not the first time Hadi had gone up against the Malay rulers.

He cited Hadi’s remark in March 2023, when the Islamist party president questioned the Terengganu sultan’s decree which barred politicians from giving speeches in mosques in the state.

“Such statements reek of disrespect to Malay rulers who are the head of Islam in the respective states.

“It is worth noting that the Malay rulers have taken vows to uphold the Islamic religion and will strengthen it at all costs.

“Thus, any party that wishes to reprimand or advise the Malay rulers on matters pertaining to Islam, must do it through the right channels and procedures,” said the ruler. - Mkini
