KUALA LUMPUR: An MP has urged the government to be consistent and committed in carrying out its economic reforms, without making U-turns.
Shahar Abdullah (BN-Paya Besar) called for wisdom and boldness in how the government communicates its economic policies to the public.
“There is a need to go down to the ground and meet with people like teachers, students, doctors and community leaders to provide a clear understanding of the matter, using layman’s terms.
“This will increase the government’s credibility, not through its plans alone, but through clear explanations and effective implementation,” he said when debating the royal decree in the Dewan Rakyat.
Shahar called on all parties not to make the ringgit’s current decline a measuring stick for the nation’s economic performance.
“Based on the explanations that have been given, I am confident the government has not remained silent on the matter. It has been aggressively formulating strategies to tackle the decline.
“(The ringgit’s decline) is not only based on internal, but also external factors.” - FMT
